We started by honoring Donald Greenwood for over 13 years of service to Sauk County.
The board then took up appointments. A motion was made to split the two appointments as one was an issue people wanted to talk about. The vote to split the two appointments was 22-7. The first vote was 29-0 to appoint Clariss Funmaker to Families Come First/Comprehensive Community Services Coordinating Committee. The second vote was for Gordon Statz being appointed to the Health Care Center Board of Trustees. Numerous citizens spoke against this appointment as it was seen as partisan. Gordon was known to be an officer with the Sauk County Republican party and therefore believed to be for the sale of the Sauk County Health Care Center. During the public comments several people began shouting. This included supervisors. Before supervisors began debate, county administrator Lisa Wilson spoke about the process to appoint a board member. Most people believed, as I did, that the appointment was made by the board chair. It was made by a panel of people who asked questions, and then scored the candidate. Gordon scored the highest. Lack of transparency and/or understanding, and conspiracies led to a lot of negativity. Several supervisors spoke on the issue. In the end the vote was 14-14 with 1 abstention. Therefore, the appointment failed.
The board voted 29-0 to rezone lands in the Town of Reedsburg from exclusive agriculture to agriculture. This was done to allow for the expansion of a landfill.
The board voted 29-0 to authorize the administrator to accept a grant and enter into a grant agreement and land use restriction with the state. This grant is to be used on the Sauk County Farm to assist in carrying out the master plan for the farm. The land use restriction will apply for 20 years and restrict land use outside of what the farm plan intended.
As always, any opinions expressed here are my opinions and do not represent the Sauk County Board.
